FROM CARDIFF TO KINGSTON: ALEIGHCIA SCOTT’S GWREIDDIAU SPARKS PURE SKA JOY

Reggae has always been a music of roots, and few artists carry that idea further than Aleighcia Scott. The chart-topping artist, BBC broadcaster, Y Llais coach and has just released Gwreiddiau (Roots), an upbeat burst of ska arriving ahead of her highly anticipated debut Welsh-language album.

Celebrated producers Yws Gwynedd and Rich James Roberts joined Scott in the studio, where deep conversations about striking parallels between the two nations sparked Gwreiddiau. The track demonstrates just how connected these two cultures really are.

The song’s emotional peak brilliantly interweaves the line, “Hen wlad yn annwyl i the land we love.” The lyrical focal point seamlessly interweaves the national anthems of both Wales and Jamaica into a singular message of unity.

“What a joy to create ska and an honour to do so in the Welsh language,” Scott says “Singing about all of us being connected to the land we love.”

WHAT A JOY TO CREATE SKA AND AN HONOUR TO DO SO IN THE WELSH LANGUAGE

The single offers a tantalising glimpse of her debut Welsh-language album, landing this summer before the National Eisteddfod. One more single is still to come, capping off a monumental 2026 for the artist, so far.

Teaming up with Boom Cymru for a brand-new S4C series titled GWALIA, we will see her hosting and filming across locations in Wales this year. Additionally, the National Centre for Learning Welsh have recently named her an official Learn Welsh Ambassador.

This August, Scott will be officially inducted into the prestigious Green Robes of Gorsedd Cymru at Eisteddfod Genedlaethol y Garreg Las, one of Wales’ highest cultural accolades. It is a huge historic honour signifying her exceptional contribution to the arts and Welsh culture.

Gwreiddiau arrives first, proving that roots travel beyond any border.
