Hawaiian roots and reggae fire unite on Maoli’s ‘Last Sip of Summer: Island Vibe’. Reggae Tastemaker

HAWAIIAN ROOTS AND REGGAE FIRE UNITE ON MAOLI’S ‘LAST SIP OF SUMMER: ISLAND VIBE’

When the sun sets over Maui, the horizon glows with the same warmth that runs through Maoli’s music. His album, Last Sip of Summer: Island Vibe, released via ONErpm, feels like that fading light, familiar yet transformed. Reimagined with rich reggae tones, it turns his country-rooted Last Sip of Summer into something more fluid, rhythmic and alive.

“Last Sip of Summer was born in the sun, but now it’s soaked in reggae,” says Glenn Awong, better known as Maoli. The Maui native has long bridged the worlds of island soul and Americana storytelling. Since emerging in the mid-2000s, he has blended the emotional grit of country with reggae’s laid-back pulse, finding common ground in honesty and heartache.

BORN IN THE SUN, NOW SOAKED IN REGGAE

Produced by Dann and David Huff in Nashville, the original album topped the US Reggae Albums Chart earlier this year. This new version deepens that success, offering fans both nostalgia and a sense of renewal. The songs breathe differently now, their melodies rippling with island texture and reggae vibes.

Maoli’s rise has been swift. In 2025 alone, he made his national TV debut on The Today Show, headlined a US tour, and secured his first Grand Ole Opry appearance. His Island Vibe tour heads to New Zealand next, extending the fusion of sound and spirit that continues to define one of Hawaii’s most distinctive voices.
