SAMORY I’S NEW ALBUM, STRENGTH, PRODUCED BY WINTA JAMES IS OUT NOW ON OVERSTAND ENTERTAINMENT / EASY STAR RECORDS
Samory I is a renowned Jamaican reggae artist who gained worldwide recognition following the release of his collaborative album, Black Gold, with Jamaican producer RoryStonelove in 2017. His forthcoming album, Strength, features 11 tracks produced solely by Winta James, a prolific reggae producer who has worked with prominent artists like Protoje, Chronixx, and Damian Marley. The album also includes guest appearances by several Jamaican reggae artists, including Lila Iké, Jesse Royal, and Mortimer.
Over the past year, Samory I has been teasing fans with singles from the album, including “Blood In The Streets,” “Crown,” and “Wrath,” which features Kabaka Pyramid, a 2023 Grammy award winner, and dancehall legend Capleton. These tracks have received significant radio play and global attention, with tastemakers like Sir David Rodigan of BBC 1xtra citing Samory I as one of the few current Jamaican artists carrying reggae forward.
Samory I’s music has earned him the cover of three European magazines: UK’s ECHOES, Germany’s RIDDIM, and France’s REGGAE VIBES. John Masouri from ECHOES described Samory I as one of the most influential artists of the present era, saying that he is a Jamaican roots man who holds fast to the Rastafari faith and makes records that are rarely less than essential.
According to Samory I, the Strength album represents the struggles he has overcome both mentally and physically. He also says it represents his son, the driving force behind the album. The album’s cover features a beautiful black and white photo, shot by renowned director and photographer Yannick Reid, of Samory I embracing his son.
