ONE ALBUM, GLOBAL ICONS: VYBZ KARTEL OPENS NEW CHAPTER, GOD AND TIME
Vybz Kartel has returned with an album that rebalances history. God and Time is a long-awaited release from one of Jamaica’s most magnetic voices. It announces itself with a moment fans barely dared to dream of: Kartel and Mavado, finally sharing the same track.
Anyone who lived through the legendary Gaza vs. Gully dancehall clash of the 2000s understands what that means. The musical feuds shaped a generation of Jamaican music culture. The reunion of Kartel and Mavado on the project arrives as a symbol of peace sealed in music, and landing just ahead of a joint Reggae Sumfest headline this summer.
God and Time reaches far beyond Jamaica too. Afrobeats superstar Wizkid brings his signature effortless vocals and crossover magnetism to the album. Meanwhile, Puerto Rican superstar Farruko pushes it into Latin territory.
NO MATTER YOUR MOOD, THERE’S SOMETHING FOR YOU
Jamaican heavyweights Spice, Shenseea and Skillibeng hold down the roots, with Shenseea’s Panic already running hot across the diaspora as an early song-of-the-summer contender.
Kartel captures it simply: “No matter what mood you are in, there is something on here for you.” Given the ground this record covers, that feels like an honest promise. “Some of these collaborations,” he adds, “could only come together through God and Time.” It’s hard to argue with that.
Produced with longtime collaborators TJ Records, the team behind Dancehall’s King, the album draws on themes of faith, survival and creative rebirth.
Clear about the vision, Kartel is direct: “Some of these collaborations could only come together through God and Time.”
