GENTLEMAN ROARS BACK WITH ROOTS ANTHEM LION FOR RESTLESS TIMES

Cologne-born reggae giant Gentleman has spent over twenty years moving between European and Jamaican culture, earning gold and platinum albums and chart-topping singles with rare ease. Organically rootsy single Lion is the charged opening track from his upcoming album Gratitude, born from a long-distance creative spark.

The song took shape around a conversation between Gentleman and Donovan Bennett, the revered Jamaican producer better known as Don Corleon, who has shaped modern reggae and dancehall since the early 2000s.

Gentleman says, “We start reason on the phone about the gift of life. About what a blessing it is to be on this Earth.” He continues, “In one night, him send me like, 10 different instrumentals. All killers. No fillers.” This is the song Lion.

THE GIFT OF LIFE. WHAT A BLESSING IT IS TO BE ON THIS EARTH.

Co-written with hit songwriter Matthew Keaveny (aka Mathew Keely) and produced entirely by Don Corleon, who also plays bass, keyboards, guitar, and drums, Lion pulses with warm, weighty roots energy. The lion stands as a symbol of strength and righteousness.

Lyrics such as “What is life without purpose / Never fit in nuh join circus / Find your roots and know your truth” carry an authentic truth that provocatively hits home.

Twenty years in, Gentleman sounds more purposeful than ever, and forthcoming album Gratitude, due out in August, looks set to be his finest chapter yet. If Lion sets the tone, the wait will be worth every second.
