THE UPSESSIONS JOIN MONTY NEYSMITH FOR EPIC ‘SHERIFF DOUBLE GUN’
After ten years away, Dutch reggae band The Upsessions ride back with a scorching, long-awaited album. Joining them is Symarip and Pyramids co-founder Monty Neysmith, one of reggae’s most storied voices. Together they deliver Sheriff Double Gun, a 13-track tribute to Jamaica’s deep love affair with Spaghetti Westerns.
Jamaican music’s connection to the Wild West runs deep. From The Skatalites‘ thunderous take Guns of Navarone, to Lee “Scratch” Perry’s Clint Eastwood and The Good, The Bad And The Upsetters, Jamaican musicians have always drawn on cowboy mythology.
Artists like Derrick Harriott, Clancy Eccles and Jimmy Cliff kept the spirit riding high. Peaking between 1969 and 1972, the golden age of boss reggae, this is precisely the territory where The Upsessions have always excelled.
THIS IS PRECISELY WHERE THE UPSESSIONS HAVE ALWAYS EXCELLED
For this album, the band brings in a titan. Symarip and Pyramids co-founder Monty Neysmith, a Trojan Records veteran and the man behind the immortal Skinhead Moonstomp, lends his legendary voice to every track. His presence transforms this album into something genuinely historic.
Completing the package is a stunning hand-painted cover by Dutch artist Willem Bergisch, in a vivid homage to vintage Western comics.
Supporting the LP’s release on 1 May via Aggrobeat Records, The Upsessions get ready to embark on a European and UK tour later this year, including dates alongside The Pioneers. Respect the sheriff.
