Italian producer Paolo Baldini DubFiles takes a fresh approach on his latest album ‘In The Shell’, his third solo effort.

Unlike Paolo Baldini Dub‘s previous albums, which heavily relied on post-production techniques, the new album sees Baldini embrace the Jamaican dub school tradition.

The music starts with original compositions, building the tracks from the ground up like writing on a ‘blank sheet of paper’.

This shift puts the focus on in-studio creation of core instrumentals before Baldini brings in a global crew of collaborators. The list is impressive, featuring artists Kabaka Pyramid, Anthony B, and Queen Omega, alongside many others.

‘IN THE SHELL’ IS A VIBRANT BLEND OF INFLUENCES

One of the distinctive features of ‘In The Shell’ is its use of diverse ethnic sounds and samples. Baldini meticulously collected these during his travels across Africa. The samples served as the basis for his signature electronic production and post-production techniques.

‘In The Shell’ is a vibrant blend of influences. Baldini seamlessly merges a deep exploration of roots music with electronic flourishes. The global collaborations further enhance this hybrid sound, creating a unique sonic experience that must not be missed.

Paolo Baldini is a veteran of the Italian reggae scene. He made his mark with BR Stylers, known for their electronic and British-inspired sound. In 2006, he joined Africa Unite, co-producing their albums and launching The Dub Sync project.

Baldini launched his solo project, Paolo Baldini DubFiles, in 2014. He’s since released several albums, including collaborations with artists in Jamaica and Italy. His recent work includes music production for films and reggae labels, showcasing his diverse talents.
