SUBATOMIC SOUND SYSTEM AND SCREECHY DAN DROP AN INFECTIOUS NEW SINGLE ‘MY SOUND IS HEAVY’

Get ready for a spring jam that’s both sweet and powerful. Subatomic Sound System and legendary Jamaican vocalist Screechy Dan have teamed up on the vibrant new single ‘My Sound is Heavy’.

The single blends soulful reggae with classic dancehall, creating an irresistible vibe. The song came to life during a summer tour when Screechy Dan improvised lyrics over a catchy instrumental during a Subatomic soundcheck.

The duo captured that magic in the studio, influenced by artists like Nina Simone and Jamaican icons like U-Roy and Sister Nancy.

The song comes in three versions: a full vocal mix, a dub version with a melodica melody (a nod to reggae legend Augustus Pablo), and a purely dub version.

IT FELT LIKE CAPTURING LIGHTNING IN A BOTTLE

Screechy Dan explained, “The bass line was so heavy, I just started freestyling.” Before they knew it, they had the whole song. Producer Emch added, “It felt like capturing lightning in a bottle.”

The single also pays tribute to the late Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, a reggae and dub pioneer who collaborated with them for years. The duo is even going on tour to honour Scratch’s legacy.

Subatomic Sound System has been busy lately, working with artists such as Jack Johnson and rising Jamaican stars like Jah9. They were also featured in the Smithsonian Institution’s recent Afro-Futurism exhibit.
