VIBES & HOPE: MATTHEW MALCOLM’S STIRRING ‘PLEASE SIR’

Some songs tell the truth so plainly they stop you in your tracks. Please Sir, the searing new single from Kingston-born reggae vocalist Matthew Malcolm, is one of them. Built around a child’s haunting plea, “Please sir, could I get some food to eat?”, it speaks with quiet, devastating clarity.

Malcolm carries an impressive creative range. His acting role in the 2024 biographical film Bob Marley: One Love, where he portrayed a young Seeco Patterson of The Wailers, speaks to an artist who moves fluently between disciplines. His music reflects that same breadth, rooting itself in Jamaican tradition while drawing on sounds from across the globe.

That cinematic instinct runs through Please Sir. The song gives voice to children growing up in overlooked communities, where survival demands daily courage and resolve.

THE HEIGHT OF SOCIAL COMMENTARY WRAPPED IN REGGAE SOUL

Malcolm honours their stories with dignity, portraying resilience, faith, and quiet determination through vivid street-level storytelling. Centred around its evocative cry, the track speaks to hunger in all its forms: hunger for food, for opportunity, for dignity, and for a fair shot at life.

This is the height of social commentary wrapped in reggae soul, and it places Matthew Malcolm among the most compelling voices emerging today.
