ANALOGUE FIRE: INSIDE ZION TRAIN’S ‘DUBS OF PERCEPTION’

Zion Train returns in full sonic force with Dubs of Perception, a raw and hypnotic album that pushes dub boundaries while celebrating the roots that shaped them. Crafted at the Alte Ziegelei studio by dub maestro Neil Perch, this record dives headfirst into analogue warmth, layered with the unmistakable touch of the TAC Scorpion mixing desk.

From the opening track, there’s a richness — a sense that every layer matters. Cara’s vocals soar with both fire and grace, blending effortlessly with the stirring poetry of Roger Robinson. The brass section, as always, is razor-sharp, lifting tracks into full-spectrum soundscapes.

THIS IS ZION TRAIN AT THEIR MOST INTENTIONAL—ANARCHIC, RHYTHMIC AND DEEPLY ALIVE

Alongside core members, the lineup glows with heavyweight contributions. Paolo Baldini brings textured guitar and bass grooves, while Trinny Fingers, Blacka Wilson, Dreada One and Professor Skank (Crete’s dub ambassador) add veteran presence to the mix.

This is the band at their most intentional, anarchic, rhythmic, and deeply alive. The visuals by Croatian rebel artist Marko Gin reflect the album’s sonic defiance, while Pressure Mastering adds the final punch.

Having just marked 35 years and over 3,000 shows, including Glastonbury (15 times!), Outlook and Reggae Geel, along with Zion Train, prove their journey is far from over.

With Cara Jane Murphy now fronting their live shows, the energy is pure elevation.
