SHUGA PRESCRIBES HEALING WITH ‘LOVE DOCTOR’, AN ODE TO LONG-DISTANCE LOVE
Jamaican powerhouse Shuga drops her soulful single Love Doctor through VP Records, and it’s a stunner. Produced by Donovan Germain on the evocative Boxing Around riddim, this lovers rock gem dives deep into the heart’s yearning for closeness and comfort. It’s a track that makes love feel like medicine, soothing and revitalising.
The release gets even more compelling with an accompanying video directed by Kenny Gray, hitting screens on 8 November. This video artfully contrasts Shuga’s Love Doctor with her rendition of Cornell Campbell’s Boxing Around, showing love’s duality—desire and longing, healing and tension.
“Love Doctor came from the long-distance strain with my husband,” Shuga shares. “His words, ‘You need your medication,’ sparked the song. One demo later, he was on a plane, and soon after, we had wedding bells and a baby boy.”
Love Doctor is the first single from Shuga’s highly-anticipated debut, Girl from Montego Bay, expected in early 2025. Fans can catch her live debut at the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival in Florida on 10 November.
Mark your calendars: the Girl from Montego Bay era is just beginning, and Shuga’s vocals are about to make waves.
