In a dim Los Angeles studio, the low thrum of bass rolls through the walls while echoes ripple across the soundboard. Chuck Foster leans in, listening closely. For decades he has lived and breathed reggae, from hosting Reggae Central on KPFK to writing books that trace its cultural heartbeat. Now, with Chill Out Dub he distils that lifelong devotion into sound.
Working with engineer and bassist Mike Irwin, guitarist Tony Chin and a circle of Southern California musicians, Foster carves a distinct dub identity. Each track reflects the balance between Jamaican foundation and Californian flow, giving his sound both weight and warmth.
