ROCKSTEADY BLISS: JOEY QUIÑONES SHARES HOPE IN DON’T LET GO

Joey Quiñones writes songs for the moments you can’t quite shake. His superb rocksteady single Don’t Let Go is built for one in particular: the right person at the wrong time, and the lingering hope that the story isn’t over yet.

East Los Angeles runs through every note Joey Quiñones writes and performs. Listening to his work transports you to a two-block radius of his neighbourhood, where a sensory menagerie follows you home.

But it was his years backing visiting Jamaican ska and dancehall acts touring Southern California that shaped him most. He calls it his time at reggae college, and the curriculum was unforgiving. Every Jamaican artist with a record out had notes, and Quiñones absorbed every lesson.

That apprenticeship in rocksteady and roots runs deeply through Don’t Let Go, like a current.

A SOULFUL SONIC JOURNEY YOU WON’T WANT TO END

Despite overtones of a possible love lost, Quiñones and his crew bring a balanced set of vocal harmonies that strike the perfect balance.

His signature vibrato carries the emotional weight, while vocal harmonies keep things buoyant rather than bleak. Midway through, a warm sax solo from Quiñones shines like a shaft of sunlight breaking through clouds.

The track features two of his modern Chicago soul outfit, Thee Sinseers: Eric Johnson on saxophone and Eleazar of the Brown Boyz on piano. Together they take you off on a soulful sonic journey you won’t want to end.

Backed by Colemine Records, his debut solo album, Inna Soul Steady Situation, is due out on 29 May 2026. This is Joey Quiñones at his most unhurried and assured. A spiritual heir to Alton Ellis and Brenton Wood who refuses to sand down his edges.
