THE FANTELLS DROP A FRESH TAKE CLASSIC ‘SATTA MASSAGANA’

The Fantells, the legendary Jamaican roots reggae trio, have returned with a reworking of he Abyssinians’ classic “Satta Massagana.” This exciting release marks the first from Selwyn Brown’s Rootical Muzik Productions on Warrior Records.

Originally formed in 1975, The Fantells consisted of Leon Brown, Ladely Brown, and Hal Anthony Lewinson. The group enjoyed success with hits like “You Can’t Hide,” “Ghetto Girl,” and “Hooligan,” which became one of their biggest songs in 1977.

Hal Anthony Lewinson, the current lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist, was born into a musical family in Frankfield, Jamaica. His cousin is the legendary Jimmy Cliff, and his uncle Norris Weir was a member of The Jamaicans.

WITH BLESSINGS FROM THE ORIGINAL FOUNDERS, THEY’RE CREATING NEW MUSIC AND PREPARING TO TOUR

Lewinson’s first taste of success came with The Beltones, who scored a hit with “No More Heartaches” in 1968. After The Beltones disbanded in the early ’70s, The Fantells emerged.

Over the years, Lewinson toured Europe, Japan, South America, and the Caribbean, promoting his music. Now, he’s reviving The Fantells with a fresh lineup. “With blessings from the other two original founders, I decided to reinvent the group,” Lewinson said.

Joining him are Glenroy Davey (aka Mr Pinnacle) and Ted Greaves, Jr (Roots Uprising). Together, they’re creating new music and preparing to tour the world.

The Fantells are back and ready to share their sweet melodies with fans, old and new. This reworking of “Satta Massagana” is just the beginning of their exciting new chapter.
