SMOKE AND MIRRORS SOUND SYSTEM DROPS TRIBUTE ‘NO. 10 DUBBING STREET’
Smoke and Mirrors Sound System returns with an incredible tribute album, No. 10 Dubbing Street, released under Escape Hatch Records. This all-star band pays homage to Big Audio Dynamite’s iconic 1986 release No. 10, Upping St. That original album marked the final collaboration between Mick Jones and Joe Strummer of The Clash.
Strummer co-produced the album and co-wrote five of the nine tracks. Legendary Don Letts also contributed his talents, co-leading vocals and handling the sampler. Together, they crafted a ground-breaking mix of reggae, hip-hop, and dance that still feels fresh almost 40 years later.
Now, John Roy and a crew of ska and reggae heavyweights put their own spin on these timeless tracks. They add a full dub treatment on the second LP, transforming the songs into a completely new experience.
Whether you’re revisiting these classics or discovering them for the first time, don’t miss this album.
ABOUT SMOKE AND MIRRORS SOUND SYSTEM
Smoke and Mirrors formed during the pandemic when live music, practice, and recording were no longer possible. John Roy, out of work and isolated, wrote songs and recorded them using MIDI instruments in his closed office. He reached out to fellow musicians from his touring days with Gangbusters, OMD, English Beat, Unsteady, and others.
Stuck at home, musicians sent tracks, WAV files, and even voicemails. John edited, mixed, and mastered the contributions. Eventually, his imaginary band came to life, gathering talented players from around the world to bring the recordings to the stage.
