Sanchez shares soul and struggle on deeply rooted ‘Jamdown’. Reggae Tastemaker

FROM KINGSTON WITH LOVE: SANCHEZ DROPS ROOTS-RICH JAMDOWN

Sanchez steps back into the frame with Jamdown—a rich, roots-drenched album released via VPAL Music. Blending lovers rock smoothness with sharp social commentary, the Jamaican icon offers something fresh for longtime fans and curious newcomers alike. It’s honest, melodic and deeply grounded.

Known for timeless dancehall classics like Never Dis di Man and Loneliness, Sanchez showcases a more personal side here. “Extremely intimate and something almost everyone can relate to,” he says. And that promise holds.

The title track hits hardest. While it mourns the challenges facing Jamaica, it also celebrates the land’s raw beauty and cultural power. “I relate to the lyrics… just because I am a true product of the place,” Sanchez explains.

I RELATE TO THE LYRICS OF JAMDOWN DEEPLY BECAUSE I AM A TRUE PRODUCT OF THE PLACE

Co-written with producer Kenneth Thompson, standout cuts like Hot Girl and Disloyalty explore love, trust and self-worth. Meanwhile, Clean Like A Whistle and Desperate Man tap into dancehall’s punchier edge.

But Jamdown is as carefully crafted as it is sharp. With help from multi-instrumentalist Paul Gauntlett, Wayne Armond (Chalice), and Tafina Wilson, every layer feels deliberate.

Four decades in, Sanchez remains a voice of experience and elegance. “Staying true to [God] allows me to be true to my music,” he says—and Jamdown proves it.
