Supernova is the vivid new album from Jamaican singer-songwriter and producer Runkus. It is the sound of an artist shedding one skin and growing something stranger and more luminous in its place.
Romario Bennett, the vocalist, producer and songwriter who records as Runkus, has spent years pushing reggae past its own boundaries. On the album, he pulls roots tradition, thundering dancehall bass and deeply personal lyricism into orbit around a single, striking idea: that transformation requires total destruction first.
Sean Paul brings dancehall firepower, while Peter Tosh’s presence roots the record firmly in reggae’s revolutionary tradition.

What lifts this above a bold studio statement is the partnership with Tavares Strachan, the MacArthur “Genius” Grant-winning Bahamian visual artist. Together they push the record into gallery space, following the lineage of Warhol and the Velvet Underground, Virgil Abloh and Kanye West. The music becomes an installation.
“This is the death of one version of myself,” Runkus says, “and the birth of something new.” Supernova makes that transformation feel genuinely earned.
