ROMAN STEWART: LOST REGGAE ALBUM “GIVE THANKS” FOUND!
Good news! A long-lost vocal and dub album by the legendary Linval Thompson, and mixed by connoisseur engineer Roberto Sánchez, has surfaced. The “Give Thanks” album features three previously unreleased songs and is a true gem for vinyl lovers.
This vocal and dub collection, titled “Give Thanks,” brings together seven previously unheard tracks by Stewart alongside their instrumental dub versions.
It’s a treasure trove for vinyl enthusiasts, showcasing Stewart’s powerful vocals on classic rhythms produced by Linval Thompson and his renowned backing band, the Roots Radics.
Recorded in 1979, the album captures Thompson’s golden era of productions. Four of the songs were released as singles back then, but this is their first time being reissued. Three others, including the title track, are completely new discoveries. The title track, “I’m In A Bad Mood,” and the romantic ballad “Hello Baby,” make their debut here.
Reggae lovers will recognise some of the deep and heavy rhythms used on the album. “Give Thanks” shares the same brooding arrangement as Barry Brown’s “Hey Mr Rich Man,” while “What You Wanna Do” features the powerful backing from Freddie McKay’s “Mus-Jam.”
The music was recorded at the Hoo Kim brothers’ Channel One Studio in West Kingston, Jamaica, which is especially known for its crystal-clear sound.
Roberto Sánchez, master engineer and longtime collaborator of Linval Thompson, mixed the tracks from their original tapes. His A-Lone Ark Muzik Studio in northern Spain brought new life to this hidden treasure.
“Give Thanks” is a true gift for reggae enthusiasts, available exclusively at Bandcamp and Discogs.
Let’s celebrate this unexpected gift from the past and give thanks for the timeless rhythms that continue to resonate today.
