SONGLINES ACROSS CONTINENTS: ROCKY DAWUNI & CEDELLA MARLEY DELIVER ‘I GOT A SONG’
Ghana’s reggae and Afro-roots icon Rocky Dawuni, a four-time Grammy nominee, joins forces with Cedella Marley for the evocative anthem I Got A Song. Released via Aquarian Records and distributed by Tuff Gong International, this collaboration weaves deep cultural meaning into soaring melodies.
Inspired by the Australian Aboriginal concept of Songlines, which Rocky encountered during visits to Indigenous communities, the track celebrates music as a cultural passport, a living archive, and a link to ancestral lands. This spiritual foundation lends the song a resonant purpose, expanding its reach far beyond genre boundaries.
I GOT A SONG’ IS A CULTURAL PASSPORT, CARRYING ANCESTRAL WISDOM ACROSS GENERATIONS
Marking Cedella’s first recording in years, the track was crafted at Hen House Studios in Venice, California. The session brought together legendary musicians, including Santa Davis (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh) on drums, John McKnight (Ben Harper, Fishbone) on bass and guitar, and Anthony Brewster (Chali2na, Citizen Cope) on keyboards.
Engineered by Harlan Steinberger and mixed by Bob Riddim, it carries the same polished depth heard on Rocky’s Grammy-nominated “Neva Bow Down.” Cedella’s vocals, recorded in Miami with Fareed Salamah, add a striking emotional counterpoint to Rocky’s delivery.
This is a meeting of legacies, creating music that transcends borders.
