RISING STAR MORTIMER DROPS POWERFUL TRACK “BRUISES” AHEAD OF DEBUT ALBUM
Reggae’s rising star, Mortimer, is back with a thought-provoking new track, “Bruises,” featuring Grammy-winning artist Kabaka Pyramid and the genre’s shining star Lila Iké. The track is part of Mortimer’s highly anticipated debut album, From Within, set for release on 20 September 2024.
“Bruises” dives deep into the pain and strength of Black people and reflects on the injustice endured throughout history.

Mortimer emphasises, “My new song speaks on the mistreatment we’ve had to endure as Black people especially, but also about the human condition and the emotional distress we all face regardless of race or status.” This message resonates with anyone who has faced emotional distress, regardless of race or status.
The visualiser for “Bruises,” directed by Pete Beng, is a powerful portrayal of slavery and discrimination. Mortimer, Kabaka Pyramid, and Lila Iké deliver a collective message of equality, with historical images of civil rights icons like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks projected behind them.
As the fifth single from From Within, “Bruises” showcases Mortimer’s ability to blend raw, confessional lyrics with his signature laid-back reggae vibes.
