MESH MARINA’S DEBUT JOKE DEM A JOKE RIDES THE CLASSIC FULL UP RIDDIM
Mesh Marina step into the spotlight with their striking debut single Joke Dem A Joke, featuring vocalist Shennell and producer Mario C. The Kingston-based reggae-fusion band draw strength from the capital’s restless music scene. Their sound threads deep reggae roots with international textures, pulling listeners into a future-facing vision of Jamaican music.
The idea for Mesh Marina began in a Kingston studio session, when 19-year-old Shennell met guitarist Brian Jones. Their creative spark quickly became a blueprint for collaboration.
Jones introduced Shennell to Mario Campbell, better known as Mario C, a top Jamaican producer and DJ. Together, the trio envisioned a new reggae-fusion sound that could carry Jamaican music to global audiences while staying rooted in the genre’s core.
At the heart is 19-year-old singer Shennell, whose soulful tone and modern edge guide the band’s energy. Growing up in Waterhouse, she found her voice in a school band, then sharpened it through writing songs shaped by mood and instinct.
“I write what’s on my mind that day. It just comes naturally, it’s my mood,” she explains.
With icons like Whitney Houston, Bob Marley and Marcia Griffiths guiding her, Shennell offers a voice both grounded and adventurous.
JOKE DEM A JOKE HIT MORE THAN THREE MILLION VIEWS IN WEEKS
The single, released via 3rd Dimensions Music and produced by Mario C on a bold reimagining of the classic Full Up Riddim, has already surpassed three million organic views in under a month. Street selectors and radio DJs alike have rallied behind it, affirming Mesh Marina’s arrival as more than a passing wave.
Though yet to hit the stage, the six-piece band rehearses daily, preparing to debut live shows in October. With 32 songs already recorded, their ambition is fierce. They aim to headline Caribbean and global festivals, proving reggae-fusion has the power to command the world stage again.
