Mellow Mood honour Naâman with the soulful ‘Play No Banger’. Reggae Tastemaker

MELLOW MOOD HONOUR NAÂMAN WITH THE SOULFUL ‘PLAY NO BANGER’

Italian reggae veterans Mellow Mood mark a powerful return with Play No Banger, a reflective and stirring single that bridges grief, faith and artistic conviction. The track was meant to open their April album 7, but its release was delayed after the death of French reggae star Naâman, who contributed a heartfelt verse.

Mixed and produced by Paolo Baldini DubFiles, Play No Banger now leads the forthcoming deluxe edition of 7, due this autumn. The reissue will include three new collaborations recorded before Naâman’s passing. His presence lends the track a spiritual gravity, deepened by Mellow Mood’s analogue roots sound and the vintage warmth of Nick Manasseh’s mastering.

Built around an expansive melody and classic 1980s-style Jamaican rhythm, Play No Banger embodies reggae’s enduring strength. It reinforces the music’s spiritual core, its revolutionary purpose and its power to uplift through truth and resistance.

A TRIBUTE TO FRIENDSHIP, LEGACY AND THE ENDURING PULSE OF ROOTS REGGAE

The lyrics reject passing trends and affirm reggae as a living voice for awareness and unity. “It’s our dedication to those who love and search for uplifting and conscious music,” Mellow Mood explain.

With Play No Banger, the Garzia brothers reaffirm their devotion to reggae’s foundation. The song’s chorus, “They say that we nuh play no banger, but we a sing it all to Father God,” feels both defiant and devotional.

As the band celebrates two decades together, this release stands as a tribute to friendship, legacy and the enduring pulse of roots reggae.

ABOUT NAÂMAN

Mellow Mood honour Naâman with the soulful ‘Play No Banger’. Reggae Tastemaker

From the quiet streets of Dieppe to Jamaica’s storied studios, Naâman carried reggae’s flame with bold conviction. He left design school to follow rhythm and purpose, recording Deep Rockers: Back A Yard in Kingston and earning France’s “Reggae Revelation of 2013.”

Each release deepened his message of healing and unity, blending roots, hip-hop and soul. His final album, Temple Road, was completed before his passing in February 2025. It turned reflection into song and sealed a legacy of light and resistance.
