DANCEHALL OF HORRORS: GREEN LION & ROOTS RADICS SUMMON DUB’S DARK SIDE

With Halloween approaching, Tabou1 have released Dancehall of Horrors, a spine-tingling dub voyage from Dartanyan Winston, better known as Green Lion. The “Scientist and Groucho incarnate” returns with a haunting mix that follows his acclaimed series Dubmaster Voyage, Dubocalypse, Dubageddon, and Dub Up.

The album reanimates tracks first produced for Junjo Lawes during the golden age of rub a dub in the early 1980s. Those sessions, powered by the Roots Radics, later landed in the hands of producer Gaylard Bravo, who released Dub Fi Junjo in 2000. Now, Green Lion and Roots Radics’ legacy fuse, as Winston revives them with his trademark precision and deep reverence for dub history.

Speaking on his inspiration, Green Lion says: “I wanted to do Dub albums in tribute to the mixing engineers who inspired me. Scientist passed me a lot of knowledge since I’ve met him.”

Tabou1 discovered Green Lion a decade ago on YouTube, and he has since evolved from hobbyist to trusted producer. Dancehall of Horrors represents the summit of that journey, shaped by lessons from masters like Godwin Logie and the dub prophet Scientist, whose influence echoes through every chilling bassline and spectral echo.

ABOUT ROOTS RADICS

Roots Radics began as a tight trio from Kingston, distilling reggae to its rhythmic heartbeat. Bassist Flabba Holt, guitarist Bingy Bunny Lamont, and drummer Style Scott laid riddims that powered Barrington Levy, Gregory Isaacs and Eek-A-Mouse.

Guided by Junjo Lawes and Scientist, they turned dub into a spectral laboratory. Decades later, their grooves endure, from Grammy-nominated The Final Battle to Dub for the Radicals, proving their sound still drives reggae forward.
