ROOTS RUN DEEP ON GLEN WASHINGTON’S SOULFUL ALBUM ‘JUST GIVING THANKS’
Glen Washington returns with a stirring and heartfelt offering. Just Giving Thanks, released on Tad’s International Record, is a roots reggae triumph grounded in gratitude, reflection and love. Composed entirely by the veteran vocalist, the 14-track album flows between devotional depth and romantic warmth.
Produced by Tad Dawkins Jr., the record captures Washington’s mindset over the past five years. Tracks like Chant Them Down and Oh, To Be Like Him pulse with spiritual energy. “We have some serious messages to spread,” Washington explains. “We have to stick to the roots.”
Yet lovers rock fans are far from forgotten. With songs like Sweet Loving and Affection, Loving You Forever and Love Will Never Run Away, Washington keeps the candle burning for romantic reggae.
WE HAVE SOME SERIOUS MESSAGES TO SPREAD. WE HAVE TO STICK TO THE ROOTS
The radiant Better Than Before is the album’s current single. It’s a finely cut lover’s rock gem, and the accompanying video – shot at Tad’s International Studio in Kingston – brings a mellow charm. Tanya Stephens also makes a surprise appearance behind the decks.
With support from some of reggae’s finest musicians, including Flabba Holt, Danny Bassie and Dean Fraser, Just Giving Thanks is both meditative and melodic.
Nearly 30 years since Brother to Brother, Washington remains one of reggae’s most soulful and consistent voices.

ABOUT GLEN WASHINGTON

Glen Washington crafts reggae with heart, depth and purpose. Starting as a drummer in 1970s Jamaica, he later found his voice—rich, assured and quietly powerful.
His breakthrough came in 1998 with Kindness for Weakness, a track that turned heads in both the roots and lovers rock circles alike. Since then, he’s released a steady stream of albums marked by warmth and spiritual focus.
Whether working with Coxsone Dodd or sharing stages with Stevie Wonder, Washington continues to honour reggae’s roots while moving it forward.
