JAZZ GONE DUB: GAUDI’S POWERFUL SONIC ODYSSEY
Four years of meticulous crafting have birthed Jazz Gone Dub, Gaudi’s audacious fusion masterpiece. This album is a deep dive into the shared DNA of two revolutionary genres, and a thoughtful exploration where improvisational jazz meets dub’s atmospheric weight.
From the opening bars, Gaudi’s vision crystallises. His Hammond organ and Fender Rhodes create lush, textured soundscapes. The glockenspiel shimmers. The Taisho harp adds otherworldly whispers. This is production as an art form, meticulous yet breathing, organic yet precise.
The cast reads like a roots music Hall of Fame. David Hinds (Steel Pulse) brings melodic warmth to Bach @ Liszt (Bucket List) and Fragile Hands. Jah Wobble’s meditative bass anchors Cool Jazztice and Tokyo Subterfuge with that unmistakable pulse.
Ernest Ranglin’s jazz guitar wizardry electrifies Susceptible, a complete reimagining of Ernie’s Dub from 2023’s Havana Meets Kingston In Dub.
JAZZ ELEMENTS FLOAT FREELY ABOVE DUB UNDERCURRENTS
Sly & Robbie lay down the rhythmic backbone. Their genius creates space where jazz elements float freely above dub’s heavy undercurrents. Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) marks Deflated and Discombobulated with his signature bass. Horseman‘s percussive fire ignites Dub Lu and beyond.
Tim Hutton’s brass punches through on Cool Jazztice. Gavin Tate-Lovery’s sultry sax and flute work, notably on H.E.L.P (Happy Elephants Love Pistachio), adds late-night jazz-club sophistication. Sardinia’s Train to Roots band, Roy Paci, Marcus Upbeat, Mr Woodnote and Vlastur round out this stellar ensemble.
Gaudi wields space, delay and reverb like instruments themselves. The album breathes. It evolves. It mesmerises.
Jazz Gone Dub arrives via Dubmission Records (LP and CD) and VPAL Music (digital). Lulu Be’s photography and Matthew Le Maistre Smith’s cover art complete this immersive package.
Essential listening for anyone who craves fearless and innovative musicianship.
