SOUL DEEP: DUB TROPICO’S ANALOGUE BASS ODYSSEY
Dub Tropico’s mesmerising Never Sell Your Soul unfolds like a fever dream. The track reunites the collective with pioneering Brazilian producer Buguinha Dub for a spectral voyage into sound.
This music carries late-90s DNA in its bloodstream. You’ll hear 4hero’s liquid intelligence flowing through the arrangements. Bristol’s smoke-filled atmospheres permeate the mix. Trip-hop’s moody undertow pulls you deeper. Madha’s mantra floats above it all, haunting and hypnotic.
Buguinha Dub’s analogue tape treatment gives the production its warm, saturated heart. The sub-bass physically moves through your body. Juan O Mago’s mix at Rio’s 39D studios captures every rich, textured layer.
NEVER SELL YOUR SOUL CARRIES LATE-90s DNA IN ITS BLOODSTREAM
DJ Relic reflects on the creative process: “Music haunts all artists. It’s always playing in the different corners of our minds, and that era musically was a very special one for us.”
The group honours those influences while pushing the sound forward. Modern studio techniques meet vintage equipment. The result sounds simultaneously ancient and futuristic.
“The track’s been a while in the making,” Relic adds. “So many layers when you listen close. I think we made a track that will now haunt you too.”
The title carries its own weight and wisdom. Your soul remains yours. Guard it carefully.
This constitutes dub for the deep end. Dive in.
