BULBY YORK MARKS FOUR DECADES WITH 5
Collin “Bulby” York has spent almost forty years inside Jamaica’s studios, shaping the sound of reggae and pushing it far beyond the island. His fingerprints are on music from Sean Paul, Rihanna, Madonna, No Doubt, and Beres Hammond. His own work as a solo artist tells another story, one where the past and present of reggae meet in unexpected ways.
5, York’s fifth full-length on Bulby York Music and VPAL Music, spans roots reggae, lovers rock and dub, weaving together voices that have defined eras with those set to carry it forward.
The album balances reinterpretation and originality. Bunny Rugs gives a stirring take on Burning Spear’s Marcus Garvey. The Maytals‘ lead vocalist, Toots Hibbert, teams with Anthony B for Pomp & Pride.
5 CONFIRMS YORK’S PLACE AS A CONNECTOR, KEEPING REGGAE’S ROOTS ALIVE
Marcia Griffiths breathes new life into her 1975 release Survival. Cocoa Tea fires up Babylon Burning, while the closing Havana Dub with Sly & Robbie locks into pure rhythm. Among its fresh moments, D’Yani’s No More Time adds softness and sway.
Following Time & Color (2023), Heartcrafted (2020), Master Blaster (2018) and Epic & Ting (2016), this record confirms York’s place as a connector, keeping reggae’s roots alive while opening new doors.
