ALEIGHCIA SCOTT MAKES HISTORY WITH FIRST WELSH-LANGUAGE REGGAE #1

Welsh-Jamaican artist Aleighcia Scott has made history. The powerhouse singer has already cemented her place in reggae, but her latest triumph, Dod O’r Galon, goes deeper.

Teaming up with Pen Dub and label Côsh, she’s delivered the first-ever Welsh-language reggae track to hit number one on the iTunes Reggae Singles Chart.

Blending the rhythmic soul of reggae with the lyrical beauty of Welsh, this release is a cultural fusion that amplifies both of Scott’s heritages.

It was so important to me to represent both of my cultures—Jamaican and Welsh,” she shares. So I brought together musicians from both worlds to make this track truly special”.

SCOTT’S IMPACT ON REGGAE IS UNDENIABLE

Scott’s impact on reggae is undeniable. Over the years she has been working with legends, from Salaam Remi to Rory Stonelove, earning a Welsh Music Prize nomination for Windrush Baby.

She’s long been a force in the genre, but this moment feels different. This time, it’s personal.

Her Welsh-language journey began in 2023 on S4C’s Iaith ar Daith, guided by actress Mali Ann Rees. Fast forward two years, and she’s now a coach on Y Llais (The Voice), where she linked up with Yws Gwynedd of Côsh Records.

Enter Pen Dub, a heavyweight in the Welsh reggae scene, and the collaboration was inevitable. “Mixing the music of Jamaica with the language and soul of Wales has been a dream come true,” says Pen Dub.

The result? A one-drop groove rooted in tradition yet fresh enough to shake up the scene. An evolution is underway, and Aleighcia Scott is its electrifying spark.
