ALBOROSIE RECONNECTS WITH REGGAE’S ROOTS ON EVOCATIVE ALBUM, NINE MILE

High in the hills of Jamaica, Alborosie stepped back into the studio to rediscover the pulse that first drew him to reggae. His ninth studio album, Nine Mile, releasing through VP/Greensleeves Records, weaves together dub, ’80s rock, new wave and bossa nova influences, creating a record that feels both grounded and borderless.

Written and recorded at his Shengen Studio in Kingston, Nine Mile draws on vintage equipment once owned by King Tubby. The album moves fluidly between roots reggae, lovers rock, and cross-genre fusions, folding in the pulse of bossa nova and echoes of 1980s rock and new wave.

Each track feels lived-in, and somehow also forward-facing. It’s the work of an artist intent on expanding reggae’s reach without losing its essence.

FROM TRENCH TOWN STREETS TO VINTAGE STUDIOS, NINE MILE IS REGGAE MEETING THE WORLD

As a first glimpse, Alborosie, affectionately known to fans as Puppa Albo, releases Trench Town Legend, a heartfelt homage to the birthplace of reggae. It interlaces references to Marley and the Wailers with Alborosie’s own reflections on the genre’s global resonance. The visualiser captures him performing in the studio, intercut with scenes from Trench Town’s streets, connecting past and present through sound and image.

Lyrically, Nine Mile moves through love, loss and frustration, while honouring the artists and communities that shaped reggae’s evolution. It follows his 2023 album Destiny, which featured Buju Banton, Kabaka Pyramid and Jaz Elise, and extends a catalogue that began with his 2008 debut Soul Pirate.
