Aleighcia Scott pips Marley and Koffee to Number One
Aleighcia Scott’s new single “Cry” takes the UK Reggae Single Chart top spot. Aleighcia Scott celebrates her second consecutive release day number one on Apple’s UK Reggae single chart with her new single, “Cry“.
It was a thrilling race to the top of the chart, Aleighcia’s Release Day Reasonings live from Jamaica via her social platforms providing the impetus to catapult her to the number one chart position ahead of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” and Koffee’s “West Indies.”
Aleighcia Scott and producer Kongz scored their first number one with their original team up ‘I Want You’ back in February. The new single, ‘Cry’ is another scorcher born from the unique UK-Jamaican combination and features legendary Jamaican Saxophonist, Dean Fraser.
She is among an array of new powerful young women singers making their mark on the Reggae scene. This week Aleighcia features on the BBC Radio Wales A List playlist. She enjoys support from Craig Charles, David Rodigan, Seani B and BBC Introducing, for whom she performed at Glastonbury and Latitude in 2019. This led to appearances in the home of Reggae, Kingston JA, including sterling sets at the world-renowned Dub Club and on King Jammy’s Soundsystem. Aleighcia Scott grew up in Cardiff and with family roots from Trelawny, Jamaica.
Kongz is one of the toughest producers emerging from Jamaica’s new wave. As well as being the band leader of Protoje’s Indiggnation band, his production credits include Kabaka Pyramid, Agent Sasco, Pressure Busspipe, Lila Ike and Sevana.
