sevad melodies ep reggae tastemaker news

Melodies by Sevad Music House Records. A collaboration between Sevad and the legendary House of Riddim, it is a rich and engaging affair.

The EP swerves between modern Roots Reggae, Lover’s Rock, smooth AfroDancehall, and Alt RnB – all entwined with Sevad’s now-recognisable vocal performances and skilled production.

All the compositions came in their original format from House of Riddim. Then, the outfit’s Sam Gilly and Sevad reworked and refined them into the five tracks on Melodies. Gilly did the pre-mix on the riddims themselves to perfect the sound – with his usual flair for quality. The final mixing and mastering were all Sevad’s work. Overall, he said of the creative process:

I have always wanted to work with House of Riddim. It was such an honour collaborating with them and I worked closely with Sam Gilly to get the riddims the way we wanted them to sound. In the end we were both proud of the final product”.

Sevad freestyled the vocals for each of the EP’s five tracks – and was so happy with the results he merely needed to tidy them before production began. Tracks, like I’m Sorry, were based on real-life events – meaning that Sevad directly channeled his own emotions when recording.

Inspired by the likes of Dennis Brown and Bob Marley, Melodies takes the listener on a journey through feel-good but also conscious Roots Reggae-derived music. All this was completed in around a month; perhaps showcasing Sevad’s natural ability and creative force.

Sevad has a very specific vision for the EP. He said: “I did this album specifically to lighten the mood of the people because I felt that these past two years have been very tense and stressful for all of us. So, I just wanted to create something for people to simply enjoy without stress and worry – just some good, old ‘relaxing with that special someone’ kind-of music”.

Melodies is a pertinent showcase for Sevad to display his skills and talent in writing music that crosses demographics and musical boundaries. The EP has something for everyone, with well-crafted and pleasing compositions, and lyrics that are infinitely relatable. It’s the perfect accompaniment for those long summer nights.
