SAMORY I SPARKS JUSTICE WITH “WRATH” FT. KABAKA PYRAMID & CAPLETON
Samory I is a roots reggae artist who puts his heart and soul into every word he sings. His latest release, “Wrath,” features Grammy award-winner Kabaka Pyramid and dancehall legend Capleton. This single is part of the announcement for Samory I’s solo debut album, “Strength,” which will be released on November 3, 2023, via Overstand Entertainment/Easy Star Records.
Prolific reggae producer Winta James produces the album and includes guest appearances by Jamaican reggae artists Lila Iké, Jesse Royal, Mortimer, Kabaka Pyramid, and Capleton.
Samory I has a real passion for music, and his upcoming album showcases this perfectly. His lyrics and performances throughout the record show the emotions he pours into his work. One track, “Wrath,” stands out as it highlights Samory I’s unique approach to his music. When asked about the song, he explained that it’s all about the corruption in the system and how the youth of today are standing up against it. This corruption has caused many problems in Jamaica, including poverty, gang violence, and a lack of trust in the government.
The “Wrath” music video directed by 300K is just as powerful as the song itself. It features performances by all three musicians and scenes of street justice playing out against corrupt law enforcement. The instrumental, produced by Winta James, has a gritty yet melodic tone that pulses between heavy drums reminiscent of a ’90s New York hip-hop masterpiece.
Winta James also spoke about the song’s making, saying that the aggressive energy of the track called for an equally aggressive vocal and lyrical delivery. Kabaka’s verse set the tone for Samory’s chorus, which adds a melodic and ominous feel to the song. Capleton’s verse was an easy choice for a song inspired in part by an album he did for Def Jam in the nineties, which put some of his greatest tunes on some equally great hip-hop beats.
Samory I is making waves with his latest single, “Wrath,” released in November 2022. It’s the third single he’s put out, and it’s been getting much attention worldwide. His previous tracks “Blood in the Streets” and “Crown” have been popular too, especially with Reggae Tastemakers like Sir David Rodigan of BBC1Xtra. He’s even said that Samory I is one of only a few Jamaican artists keeping reggae going strong.
Samory I’s new album “Strength” is a personal project that’s all about his struggles, both physically and mentally. He’s poured his heart and soul into it, and it’s also a tribute to his son, who’s been his biggest inspiration. The album cover is a beautiful black and white photo of Samory and his son, taken by Yannick Reid. It’s clear that Samory’s music is making a significant impact in Jamaica and worldwide, and “Strength” will continue pushing him forward as a prominent artist in the reggae scene.
