Bringing Soul and Funk on a track that takes on fake news and misinformation
New Orleans born (London-based), Acantha Lang’s debut single ‘He Said/She Said’ is due to be released on October 28th. ‘He Said/She Said’ announces the arrival of Lang with a funky uptempo track, melding punchy horns and an intense groove that is topped off perfectly with her fiery message.
‘He Said/She Said’ is a song inspired by the relentless onslaught of misinformation and fake news that circulates in these times. “I wrote this song two years ago, and if anything it’s only gotten worse.
We literally don’t know what to believe anymore,” says Lang. “Writing this song was my way of venting my frustrations about not knowing who or what to believe when you turn on the TV, pick up magazines, or scroll through social media. But hey…the song still had to be funky! I’m from New Orleans!”
Although born in New Orleans, it was in Harlem, New York that Acantha began her career, performing regularly with New York’s biggest session musicians at The Harlem Grill for her weekly residency ‘Monday Night Blues’. It was only when she relocated to London from New York (7 years ago) that she put her own band together and started really developing her sound.
This may be Lang’s first-ever release, but she has already built a dedicated legion of fans online through her ‘Standing On The Shoulders Of…’ series and has a list of serious industry people in her corner. GRAMMY Award-winning mix engineer, Dave Darlington has mixed her tracks. Heavyweight session player, Mo Pleasure (Ray Charles, Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson) has become a regular collaborator.
She has also co-written songs with rising star Bruno Major and GRAMMY Award-winning producer, Jimmy Bralower, who has also become a friend and mentor, to name a few.
Acantha Lang has a sound all her own, while still giving a respectful nod to the Soul legends of the past. She is undoubtedly one-to-watch.
