The Ligerians first made contact with Nadia McAnuff in 2020 as the group was drawn to her fresh offbeat artistic world, her soft melodies, her energy both punk and mystical, and her female-friendly conception of Rastafarianism.
On her part, Nadia followed and enjoyed the many recordings of the Ligerians and their label Soul Nurse Records, especially Timeless, an album featuring Chezidek.
As they got to know each, a friendly collaboration developed and the recording of an EP between France and Jamaica took shape. A first single called Lockdown was released in 2021 and was successfully hailed both in France and overseas. The topic was obviously the lockdown situation shared by almost all of the world population because of the pandemic.
The collaboration between Nadia and the Ligerians has resulted in a new track named “Order”. The song features Nadia’s own experience of discrimination that a Rastafarian woman playing the Nyabinghi drum faced and her condemnation of such oppression within the Rastafarian community. The Ligerians’ beautiful meditative one-drop reggae complements and enhances Nadia’s vocals along with the smooth Nyabinghi she plays herself.
Three other tracks now complete the EP to be released on all digital platforms on May 27, including a stepper style called Waiting room, a one-drop entitled So Jah She, and finally the dub version of Order mixed by Gabriel Bouillon, the sound engineer and guitar player of the Ligerians. In this EP, Nadia softly sings her ethereal melodies and lyrics filled with humanism.
