ABOUT MS DYNAMITE

Niomi McLean-Daley, known professionally as Ms. Dynamite, was born and raised in North London. reggae tastemaker

Niomi McLean-Daley, known professionally as Ms. Dynamite, was born and raised in North London. She grew up listening to reggae music, and at 12, she developed a love for hip-hop. Although she aspired to become a primary school teacher or a social worker, her passion for music was stronger. Ms. Dynamite began her career in music by joining a pirate radio station called RAW FM. It was there that she met Richard Forbes, also known as Sticky, in a West End club, and the two began working on her debut single, “Boo!,” which was licensed from DJ Jason Kaye’s Social Circles label to London Records.

Ms. Dynamite’s first full-length record, “A Little Deeper,” was produced by Punch, Salaam Remi, Tony Kelly, and Dave Kelly in Miami, New York, and Jamaica. The album featured the hit singles “Dy-Na-Mi-Tee” and “It Takes More.” In September 2002, Ms. Dynamite made history by becoming the first Black female artist to win the Mercury Music Prize, beating favourites such as the Streets, the Coral, and even music legend David Bowie. Three years later, she released her second album, “Judgement Days.”
