Marcia Griffiths is a legendary figure in Jamaican music, widely recognised as the most exceptional female singer in the country’s history. Her rise to fame began in the late 1960s when she released several hit singles that quickly gained popularity.
It was only a short time before she achieved international recognition, particularly in 1970, when she collaborated with Bob Andy, a long-time friend and occasional collaborator. Together, they released a reggae version of Nina Simone’s empowering song, “(To Be) Young, Gifted & Black,” which was a massive success, reaching number 5 on the UK pop chart. Their version of “Pied Piper” was also a notable hit, narrowly missing the Top 10 the following year.
Marcia’s success continued to soar, and she later became a member of Bob Marley‘s renowned backing group, the I-Threes. Despite her involvement with the group, she continued to enjoy solo success with numerous Jamaican hits for various record producers throughout the rest of the 1970s and beyond.
Her exceptional talent and contributions to the music industry have rightfully earned her a place in the history books, and her legacy continues to influence and inspire generations of musicians worldwide.

She’s succeeded as a solo artist and part of Bob and Marcia and the I-threes with Bob Marley. She continues to record and perform.
