KELLY SHANE LIGHTS UP ON “CIGARETTE” SINGLE

Kelly Shane, the daughter of the acclaimed Jamaican singer-songwriter Tanya Stephens, has released her second single titled “Cigarette”. Tad A. Dawkins Jnr produced this smokey guitar-driven song and featured a powerhouse band of veteran players such as the legendary Sly Dunbar on drums, Kirk Bennett on synth, Lloyd Parks on bass, Dwight Pinkney and Mitchum Khan Chin on guitar. In terms of lyrics, Kelly laments on the dark allure of a toxic relationship and uses the pen as her paintbrush for the seductive ballad.

LIGHT ME UP AND PUT ME OUT LIKE A CIGARETTE, YOU KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, I CAN’T WAKE UP FROM THIS DREAM

The official music video for the song, directed by the multi-talented artist Khalia, premiered on the Tad’s Record YouTube channel recently. The video was shot in several locations around Kingston and features Kelly Shane exploring ways to deal with her love interest, who only shows up for one thing before disappearing into the night.

Kelly Shane shared her thoughts on the single: “I have a special attachment to this song because it’s so personal to me. It’s about every romantic connection, from infatuation to deep, destructive soul ties. While writing the song, I found that different parts could fit different people but still sound like the same experience. It’s like a little knot of my memories of unrequited love, lies, secrets, and heartbreak, with some passion speckled in for texture.”

Khalia directed the video, saying, “Kelly Shane is a good friend. I usually direct my music videos and have directed for other artists and projects, so this is not my debut.”

Kelly Shane’s latest single “Cigarette” is the follow-up to her debut release “Ain’t That Loving You (feat. Busy Signal).” The song is a fresh take on the classic reggae tune that was famous by legends such as Alton Ellis, Dennis Brown, and Beres Hammond, who have significantly influenced Kelly Shane’s music.
