JIMMY OCTOBER TAKES US ON A FANTASTICAL VOYAGE TO HIS NATIVE ISLAND OF TRINIDAD & TOBAGO WITH “RUM & CALYPSO”
Trinidad & Tobago native Jimmy October has done it again with the release of his second hit single of the year, “Rum & Calypso.” Following the success of “Healing,” October continues to showcase the captivating sound of his homeland, fusing the island’s rhythmic Calypso and Soca music with R&B, Afrobeats, and Dancehall.
Produced by Tano & Brooklyn Decent, “Rum & Calypso” celebrate Trinidad & Tobago’s rich culture, including its world-famous Carnival and spirits.
With his innovative blend of genre and style, he offers a fresh interpretation of Calypso for the next generation. His unique sound and vision reflect the fluidity of Trinidad & Tobago’s emerging music scene, making him a rising star to watch.
October explains, “’Rum & Calypso’ is me pushing the New Calypso sound further. I’m blurring the lines between these genres that continue to inspire me. I’m always trying to find dope ways to make music that feels like home while at the same time building a world around what I think the future of the Caribbean feels like and sounds like.”
“There’s a particular feeling that Tano, Brooklyn Decent and I were going for when making this record. It was that late ’90s and early 2000s era when I heard “Girls Dem Sugar” from Beenie Man & Mya or “Like Glue” from Sean Paul. It is still a feeling that lingers in me. That’s the vibrations we’re sending out to the universe with this one,” he adds.
