Janet-Lee Davis releases first official single in almost a decade | Pour Sugar on Me.
Lovers Rock queen Janet-Lee Davis has been back in the studio to record her first official single after a hiatus lasting almost 10 years.
Pour Sugar on Me Recorded with the legendary Lord Koos Records, this will be Janet-Lee’s first single from her upcoming eponymous EP.
Born in London in 1966, at the age of three Janet-Lee Davis moved to Jamaica where she was raised. Years of singing in the local church choir led to starting her professional career in 1981, performing as a vocalist and DJ with the St. Catherine based, Ghetto Sound. After gaining recognition she relocated to the UK, where she quickly became recognized with her solo hit for Flash ‘Never Gonna Let You Go’.
1987 marked the release of the No:1 ‘Two Timing Lover’ with Fashion Records, including the B-Side ‘Call Me An Angel’ which also featured her DJ’ing skills under the name Shako Lee.
In 1990 she topped the reggae charts in combination with C.J. Lewis, performing a version of the 60s hit from Keith and Enid, ‘Worried Over You’. Davis’ success led to being contacted by Island Records A&R manager Mi-Kee Koos, and the label released ‘Spoilt By Your Love’ produced by Mi-Kee Koos and Carlton Ogilvie, and ‘Pleasure Seekers’ produced by Bluey of Incognito. She later returned to Fashion Records to dominate the UK Lovers Rock scene with a continuous profile on the reggae chart, including the hits ‘Ooh Baby Baby’, ‘Big Mistake’ and ‘Ready To Learn’.
Since 1995 she has been awarded numerous accolades including Best Female Singer and Best UK Album by the British Reggae Industry, as well as the Bob Marley Award for Best Female Singer by the Black Arts, Sports and Enterprise Awards.
Now Janet-Lee Davis returns presenting her first EP with Lord Koos Records. Her first single after an 8 year hiatus, ‘Pour Sugar On Me’ – Janet-Lee Davis is back.
