FRIENDLY FIRE BAND FROM BIRMINGHAM, UK, PRESENTS A FRESH DUB RIDDIM ALBUM
The latest offering from Friendly Fire Band is a fresh dub-riddim album called Black Cab Riddim. This British version of the timeless Taxi Riddim features a heavy backbeat and unique, old-school spaced-out mixes on each cut.
These are reminiscent of early DJ versions recorded on B-side dub versions. The album starts with veteran Jamaican artist Earl Sixteen, who updates his Studio One classic with “As We Come In,” a song about police taking over sound system dances.
This theme is echoed by UK’s “whitest” veteran MC Cheshire Cat’s (Luv Injection/Leftfield) counteraction called “Nuh Badda Mash Up,” and the previously released “Ten Weh” by Friendly Fire Band’s Myki Tuff, which tells a cautionary tale about herb confiscation.
Owancemus, Friendly Fire Band’s guitarist and vocalist, changes the mood with “Woman Dressed in Black,” a dreamy track about mystical love.
The rising new sensation Richie Culture (Young Culture Band) sings a melodic ode to his empress in “Queen Of Mine.”
Lastly, the youngest veteran Jah Mooly (Young Culture Band) recorded his song at the age of 11, and it comes with an original rub a dub DJ style full of bims, flashits, and ribbits.
Friendly Fire Band’s Black Cab Version completes the opus, making this dub riddim album a must-listen for fans of the genre.
