ABOUT I NU

Marianne and Hnawejë met more than two decades ago at the exit of a rehearsal room and have been harmonizing ever since. The former has a passion for words while the latter has a keen sense of melody. Over time, their musical collaboration has given birth to I Nu, the coconut tree in Drehu, a traditional Kanak language. Starting in Rouen, their music now spreads throughout New Caledonia.

While I Nu’s sound is heavily influenced by the rich Kanak musical heritage of Hnawejë’s home island of Lifou, it also showcases their passion for music beyond the horizon, such as bossa nova, blues, and reggae. Their music aims to take listeners on a journey, an undefined elsewhere, defined by gentle melancholy and occasional saudade.

I Nu released their first self-titled album in 2017, and their second EP, “Cet Elsewhere,” won a Music Arrow in the World Music category in 2019. The duo is excited to embark on a tour in France and the Pacific, continuing their musical adventure.
