Acantha Lang follows early support from BBC 6Music, Jazz FM, BBC London and more…
Soul’s best-kept secret and increasing one-to-watch, Acantha Lang follow early support from BBC 6Music, Jazz FM, BBC London and more for her previous singles – the dynamic funk juggernaut ‘He Said/She Said’ which tackles fake news head-on; plus the sweet ode to her mama and a poignant tribute to Black womanhood, ‘Lois Lang’ – with three soulful new songs, to be released on August 20th as part of a 5 track EP, ‘Sugar Woman’.
The title track of the album is called ‘Sugar Woman’. It tells the story of a streetwalker who has been forgotten by society. The song encourages her to keep going and not give up on life and love.
The track was co-written by Kiris Houston, a multi-platinum-selling and Latin Grammy award-winning producer, composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist.
This bittersweet song was inspired by the Rodriguez song ‘Sugar Man’. After hearing it, Lang wondered what a ‘Sugar Woman’ would be, leading to the song’s creation.
The lyrics touch upon hope, sadness, and perseverance, even in difficult circumstances.
