ABOUT DESMOND DEKKER
Desmond Dekker was a successful Jamaican singer in the 1960s and 1970s, achieving international success with hits like “Israelites” and “You Can Get It If You Really Want.” He continued to release music throughout the 70s but lost popularity in the UK. In the late 70s and early 80s, he experienced a revival in his career with the 2-Tone movement and signed with Stiff Records. He released several albums and singles, including re-recordings of his past hits. Dekker faced financial struggles and bankruptcy in the 80s but continued to release music and perform live until he died in 2006. His legacy as a ska, rocksteady, and reggae icon lives on through his extensive music catalogue.
