DAVID CAIROL – VERSE - Reggae Tastemaker

DAVID CAIRO’S LATEST ALBUM, VERS(E), IS A MUSICAL MASTERPIECE PRODUCED BY MATTHIEU BOST.

David Cairol’s latest album, Vers(e), is a musical masterpiece produced by Matthieu Bost. The album has 11 tracks showcasing incredible musical genius, evident in its diverse contributors.

The album features Sly Dunbar on drums, Bongo Herman and Hector “Roots Percussionist” Lewis on percussion, and Earl “Chinna” Smith on guitar. Even though Winston “Bo-Pee” Bowen, backing vocalist Dalton Browne, and co-producer Sam Clayton Jr. didn’t live to see the release of this work, their influence can be heard and felt throughout the album.

Three tracks from Vers(e) are already available on video. Last Bus, a skanking track, has become an instant favourite among fans. Other noteworthy tracks include Grow In, a marching tune; Music, a touching song that highlights David’s warm and on-point vocals; and Hope Road, a stirring autobiographical tale of Cairol’s musical journey.

Building Bridges is another track that stands out on the album. It combines three grand vocalists on an equally magnificent instrumental with contributions by “Winta” James on keyboard, “Bo-Pee” on guitar, “Danny Bassie” on bass, and “Bam” on drums. The result is a beautifully intense, decelerated Roots riddim on which singers David, Brinsley Forde (Aswad), and Var (Inna De Yard/Pentateuch) showcase their magic.

Heartcore is another heartening track that features Jamaican newcomer Rik Jam (Irie Yutes), another artist to look out for. Echoes From The Jungle, a Nyabinghi-influenced track, features Judy Mowatt OD, and it’s impressive how David convinced this queen to feature on the song, flowing on her signature Black Woman melody.

VERS(E) IS A FITTING EXPRESSION OF DAVID CAIROL’S DEEP DEVOTION TO REGGAE MUSIC

Banan Banan is a unique track that stands out on the album. It’s the only Reggae song sung entirely in Basque, the mysterious language of David’s home. He is joined by a 17-voice-strong choir from The Nexus Performing Arts Company, who sang Basque lyrics for the first time in their lives.

This song is a fantastic contribution to linguistic diversity and a poetic way of talking about unity we are all watching the same celestial bodies! Vers(e) is a fitting expression of David Cairol’s deep devotion to Reggae music.

This release pays homage to the masters of their craft and the instrumentalists who’ve been around since day one. Vers(e) is a must-listen for Reggae fans who appreciate musical diversity and the preservation of skills for posterity.
