REDISCOVERING ROOTS: CREATION REBEL RELEASES “HIGH ABOVE HARLESDEN 1978-2023”

Exciting news for reggae enthusiasts and vinyl collectors alike! On-U Sound is gearing up to launch a remarkable reissue of the quintessential albums by Creation Rebel, the pioneering house band of On-U Sound.

“High Above Harlesden 1978-2023”, scheduled for release at the end of March 2024, promises to be a treasure trove for fans of UK dub reggae.

These albums, originally from the late 1970s and early 1980s, are gems of the genre. Produced by the maestro himself, Adrian Sherwood, they offer a glimpse into the early days of On-U Sound’s groundbreaking production techniques.

HIGH ABOVE HARLESDEN IS MORE THAN A NOSTALGIC TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

Five seminal albums will be making a comeback on vinyl. Each one will faithfully replicate the original sleeve artwork, ensuring a nostalgic journey for longtime fans. Moreover, the new inner sleeves will feature detailed liner notes and archival photos, adding depth to the listening experience.

Alongside the vinyl reissues, avid collectors have a special treat: the “High Above Harlesden 1978-2023” anthology box set. This comprehensive collection celebrates Sherwood’s early work while paying homage to the band’s roots in North-West London.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Just last year, Creation Rebel triumphantly returned with their first album in over four decades, “Hostile Environment.” The album received widespread acclaim, cementing their status as legends of the genre.

Creation Rebel’s “High Above Harlesden 1978-2023” is more than a nostalgic trip down memory lane. It’s a testament to On-U Sound’s enduring legacy and influence on the world of reggae music.

ABOUT CREATION REBEL

Creation Rebel was initially a studio project led by Adrian Sherwood. Their debut album, “Dub From Creation”, was engineered by Dennis Bovell. As time went on, the band evolved and toured with Prince Far I, releasing several seminal records.

Crucial Tony Phillips, a key member, gained more creative input as the band progressed. Today Tony, drummer Charlie Fox, and Ranking Magoo lead the band. Despite setbacks like bass player Lizard Logan’s imprisonment and Prince Far I’s tragic murder, the band persevered. In the mid-1980s, they paused activity, but members continued making significant contributions to various projects.

Notably, Crucial Tony established the Ruff Cutt band, label, studio, and production house in Harlesden. After reforming in 2017 for a Sherwood At The Controls event, they returned to the studio and crafted rhythms for “Hostile Environment”, their first album in 40 years.
