GROUNDATION MEETS BRAIN DAMAGE WITH DREAMING FROM AN IRON GATE
Musician Harrison Stafford, known for his leadership of the band Groundation, recently shared his final recommendations with Brain Damage. In particular, he entrusted Brain Damage with the original takes of the iconic reggae album, “Hebron Gate,” which Stafford considers his masterpiece.
In honour of the 20th anniversary of “Hebron Gate,” this project is a collaboration. It is not simply a dub album but a true reinvention of a monumental work of contemporary reggae. Anyone who enjoys innovative and curious music should listen to this new album.
Stafford suggested that Brain Damage approach each of the nine tracks uniquely and cohesively. Rather than producing a succession of remixes, re-mastered tracks, or dub mixes, he carefully dissects every note and isolates them. This allows for the re-composition of tracks, alterations to harmonies, integration of recording scraps, and addition of new parts.
The result is a psychedelic, introspective, and thrilling album that challenges Groundation fans and reggae music fans.
