ABOUT BLACK ROOTS
Reggae veterans Black Roots first emerged from Bristol, UK, in 1979. In 1981, their powerful roots sound caught the ear of BBC Radio 1’s John Peel. Their lyrics tackled social injustices and resonated with fans throughout the 1980s. Extensive touring cemented their reputation, with appearances at Glastonbury and WOMAD becoming highlights.
The band faded in the 90s, but a dedicated fanbase kept their music alive. This love led to a resurgence in the 2000s, with reissues of classic albums and new recordings. They remain a powerful live act, delivering their message with conscious lyrics and deep reggae grooves at European festivals and gigs.
