KUSH MCANUFF RETURNS WITH “RUN WAY NEGATIVE,” A ROOTS REGGAE GEM

Jamaican singer Kush McAnuff, son of the legendary Winston McAnuff, is making a grand return to the international music scene in 2024. Known for his collaborations with the Inna De Yard collective and his band Uprising Roots, Kush’s new solo project revives the founding origins of spiritual, conscious roots reggae.

Kush’s single “Kilimanjaro” was a resounding success earlier this year. Released by Swedish label Shiloh Ites Music, it reaffirmed his place in the musical landscape. Kush continues his journey with “Run Way Negative,” co-produced with the young Parisian label Tattooin Beat.

The story began when Emile Boudghene, founder of Tattooin Beat, returned to Paris from a recording session in the Amazon rainforest. Maxime Fevre, aka ‘Mr Feva’, suggested he collaborate with Jamaican roots reggae legends, the Inna de Yard collective.

IT CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF ROOTS REGGAE WITH HYPNOTIC NYABINGHI RHYTHMS

They improvised a studio in a secret Parisian garden. This legendary session brought together roots reggae stars like Winston McAnuff, Cedric Myton, Keith and Tex, Dwight Pinkney, Bubbla, Steve Newland, and Kush McAnuff.

The result is “Run Way Negative,” a track that captures the essence of roots reggae with hypnotic Nyabinghi rhythms.

Kush McAnuff delivers a powerful message, urging the younger generation to reconnect with their higher selves and find inner peace. The lyrics resonate deeply: “Beware of complain spirit. Beware of cursing and quarrelling energies, No make no evil scratchy up on you.”

Dive into a deep, spiritual meditation with “Run Way Negative” and embrace its transformative power.

Kush ‘Rashau’ McAnuff, born in Kingston, Jamaica, in the late ’70s, grew up surrounded by reggae. As the son of legendary Winston ‘Electric Dread’ McAnuff, music was in his blood from birth.

By sixteen, Kush was already rehearsing with his father’s band, the famous “Black Kush Band.” His drum talent gained early recognition, leading to collaborations with notable artists like Damian Marley, Shaggy, and Sizzla.

In 2007, Kush founded the “Uprising Roots Band,” where he sang, drummed, and led the band, blending traditional reggae with contemporary influences. He also collaborated with the “Inna De Yard” all-stars. He has been making waves as a solo artist since 2016.
