WEATHERING STORMS: THE ADMIRALS’ ROOTS EPIC WHEN THE RAIN FALLS

There is a moment before a storm breaks when the air feels heavy with possibility. That sense of anticipation runs through The Admirals’ compelling album, When The Rain Falls, a richly layered roots reggae project that asks difficult questions about freedom, responsibility, and human connection.

Serving as a spiritual successor to 2019’s Sail for Tomorrow, The Admirals shift focus inward on their latest release before widening its gaze. Where the earlier release examined indifference through the lens of community, this evocative collection flips the compass. Beginning with the individual, it organically expands into a broader conversation about collective action and shared purpose.

Listeners received an early glimpse through the singles Stand Firm and Don’t You Go. Both tracks hinted at the thoughtful songwriting and musical confidence that define the record.

FREEDOM BEGINS WHEN WE LEARN HOW TO STAND FIRM IN A STORM

At its core sits a simple yet powerful question: “When the rain falls, what do you do?” Here, rain becomes a metaphor for crisis and life’s unexpected turns. Rather than offering easy answers, we are encouraged to use reason and critical thinking.

The album unfolds a narrative arc following the course of one day. We begin on a calm morning, travelling through gathering clouds and a cleansing storm, before arriving at a peaceful night.

Ambient effects created by foley artist Matteo Brenko deepen the experience, while the self-produced band’s attention to each detail remains evident throughout. Its visual aesthetic is perfectly matched by Emma Michieletto’s striking cover art.

As the artists note, “Her illustrations follow the climate and philosophical narrative of the concept, translating the journey from storm to calm into imagery.”

By matching roots riddims with human vulnerability, The Admirals extend an open invitation to listeners to begin a dialogue. We are reminded that when the rain falls, it is always easier to weather together.
