CLASSIC ROOTS RUN DEEP ON EARL SIXTEEN & THE 18TH PARALLEL’S ‘MY SON’

Few things hit harder than a reggae track built on pure love. My Son, the luminous new offering from veteran vocalist Earl Sixteen and Swiss outfit The 18th Parallel, does exactly that, and then some.

Over a warm, sun-ripened riddim courtesy of The 18th Parallel, Earl Sixteen pours out tender, reflective lyrics about parenthood, guidance, and unbreakable bonds. His voice carries the weight of lived experience.

The production is quietly magnificent. Rich harmonies weave through roots-driven instrumentation, balancing emotion and rhythm with easy confidence.

QUIETLY MAGNIFICENT CLASSIC REGGAE

Released through Swiss labels Fruits Records and Evidence Music, the track wears its heart on its sleeve and sounds all the better for it.

This is classic reggae done right: melodic hooks that feel instantly familiar, and a message that cuts clean through. Earl Sixteen remains one of reggae’s most expressive voices, and My Son proves it. Play it loud.

Few reggae voices carry as much history as Earl Sixteen’s. He rose with the Flaming Phonics in the 1970s, cut sessions at Lee “Scratch” Perry‘s legendary Black Ark recording studio, and spent the ’80s working with Jamaica’s finest producers.

He later crossed into electronic territory, fronting UK group Dreadzone. His 1997 album Steppin’ Out earned a MOBO nomination. He’s never stopped moving.
